Welcome
to Family, Friends and Food!
This website and blog
were inspired from our experiences with family dinners,
as described in my book, The
Power of Time. It had been several months since our
dad passed away, and in our period of mourning, we had skipped
over all the birthdays and holidays, events we usually celebrated
with family dinners. I felt it was time to change that.
My daughters, true cooking enthusiasts, had moved out of
the house, and I missed our culinary adventures. I had been
developing a yearning for a "couscous royale",
a festive Moroccan dish that was ideal for a large group.
It was a lot of work, and a lot of food, too much for one.
I would invite the girls. Cook it, and they will come, I
thought cleverly. The girls accepted my invitation without
a moment's hesitation, and invited a couple of friends of
their own. Surprisingly, my mom, younger brother and his
partner also accepted to join us. That first family dinner,
we ate couscous, drank and played a board game and had a
wonderful time. All agreed that it would be a great idea
to get together once a month. Our next theme was Japanese,
as we are all great fans of sushi. My other brother and
his wife joined us for that dinner, completing the family
circle. This time, everyone contributed a dish, establishing
a new tradition in our family.
Over
the past two years, we have explored the cuisines of the
world, from down home Quebec to Thailand, Brazil, California,
Italy, France, Turkey, Estonia, India, Mexico, Argentina,
China and more. Once a month, we decide on a theme menu,
and everyone participates by bringing a dish. Recipes are
researched on the Internet, in libraries and in books. As
much as possible, we try to adapt them to the health needs
of our family and friends, conscious of making healthier
choices while maintaining the uniqueness of the dish.
We
hope you will enjoy our recipes and share your experiences,
comments and suggestions on our blog.
More
to come! We're just starting out...
Enjoy
